Coachella 'cancelled' as promotion company axe staff amid coronavirus pandemic

Coachella was set to go ahead in October after being rescheduled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, reports suggest that the newly organised weekend will not go ahead.

The legendary festival held in California announced in March that it would be postponed and instead go ahead in October as the coronavirus pandemic continued to sweep across the globe.

Billboard recently reported that the event will now be cancelled as the parent company, AEG has axed their staff list, as well as placing staff on furlough.

The US media outlet claim that AEG has started letting go of 15 per cent of its staff as well as placing around 100 employees on furlough.

Artists such as Lewis Capaldi, Calvin Harris, Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against The Machine were set to headline the upcoming festival.

Stereogum reported that Coachella is said to be returning in a limited capacity in April 2021, or a full Coachella will be held in October 2021.

Reports suggest that around two-fifths of ticket holders for the iconic festival have requested refunds, rather than transferring to the rescheduled weekend.

Crowds at the Californian festival can often reach 100,000 with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian-West, Brooklyn Beckham, Kylie Jenner and Paris Jackson dress in their best festival outfits for the celebrations.

The news of Coachella’s cancellation comes shortly after Lollapalooza announced that the festival will not go ahead this year.

Lollapalooza will instead feature a live stream of live and archived performances from July 30th to August 2nd.
