Sean Connery's most iconic Bond girls – From Honey Ryder to Pussy Galore

Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, reportedly dying in his sleep after suffering with health issues for some time.

The iconic actor was the first person to portray James Bond in film, appearing in Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, Never Say Never Again, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever.

While he made the spy a household name, the classic movies also shot a number of actresses to stardom after they appeared as his Bond Girls.

Connery’s Bond movies featured some of the most iconic Bond Girls, including Honey Ryder, Pussy Galore and Domino Derval among others.

Daily Star Online has taken a look back at the films and the stunning ladies who shared the screen with the late actor.

Honey Ryder is widely acknowledged as the first Bond Girl, however Dr No also featured Sylvia Trench (Eunice Gayson) and Miss Taro (Zena Marshall).

But Honey was Bond’s main sidekick in the 1962 movie, with the character being played by Ursula Andress, though was dubbed by Nikki van der Zyl due to the Swiss actress’ thick accent.

The beauty’s first appearance in Dr No sees her emerging from the sea in a white bikini, with the moment cementing Ursula’s status as a sex symbol.

The actress went on to describe the bikini as the “secret of her success”.

The moment was given a nod in Die Another Day, with Halle Berry appearing in a similar scene but in an orange bikini.

Honey helped Bond escape No’s henchmen, before Bond saved her from the villain and they have sex on a boat.

Ursula, now 84, went on to appear in films such as Loaded Guns and Clash of the Titans.

In the 1962 Bond flick From Russia, with Love, Daniela Bianchi played Tatiana Romanova, with her voice dubbed by Barbara Jefford.

She is introduced as a corporal in Soviet Army Intelligence, with her superiors aiming to kill Bond.

Romanova sleeps with Bond in his hotel, wearing just a black velvet choker and black stockings.

They are secretly filmed by villain Rosa Klebb in what was supposed to be a tactic to embarrass MI6.

Eventually, assassin Donovan Grant plans to kill Bond and Romanova with her gun to make it look like a murder-suicide.

However Bond defeats Grant and takes Romanova to Venice, where she shoots Klebb.

They are last seen on a boat in Venice dropping the sex tape into the canal.

Pussy Galore (played by Honor Blackman in Goldfinger)

Pussy Galore is one of the most iconic Bond Girls, with the character being played by Honor Blackman in the 1964 film Goldfinger.

It is thought that the character was modelled after Blance Blackwell, who is said to have been Bond author Ian Fleming’s love in his later life.

In the movie, Galore is first seen when Bond wakes up in Goldfinger’s private jet after he was knocked out by a tranquilliser gun.

After some rough and tumble, Bond eventually pins Galore down and kisses her before she kisses him back and they have sex.

Having been working with Goldfinger, she later turns against the villain and foils his evil plan.

Bond goes on to save Galore from a crashing plane, with the duo landing safe in a tropical area where it’s presumed they have sex again under their parachute.

The beauty is often ranked high in favourite Bond Girl polls and has been parodied in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery with the character Alotta Fagina.

Dominique “Domino” Derval is the main Bond Girl in 1965’s Thunderball and was played by Claudine Auger.

Viewers first meet her while Bond is swimming in Nassau, when her foot gets caught in coral and he frees her.

They go on to have lunch together on the beach and later in the film they enjoy a slow-dance at a hotel.

Eventually they sleep together in the water before she teams up to help him kill Vargas.

Domino is captured by Largo and he tortures her, but she managed to escape and kills him with a harpoon to the back.

She and Bond then manage to jump off the yacht Disco Volante before it explodes, and are rescued with a sky hook.

The character of Domino was featured again in Never Say Never Again, this time played by Kim Basinger.

This time her name was changed to Domino and her surname went back to the novel’s original of Petachi.

In Never Say Never Again, which was not produced by Eon Productions, she meets Bond at a spa in Monte Carlo.

He poses as a masseur and he manages to get information out of her, before she realises he’s not who he says he is.

Later in the film, Domino is auctioned off as a slave but Bond manages to escape from his place of capture and saves her.

After they are rescued, they take a shower together before, at the end, Bond suggests he wants to retire from MI6 and settle down with Domino.

In the 1967 movie You Only Live Twice, Kissy Suzuki, played by Mie Hama and voiced by Nikki van der Zyl, is a ninja agent.

Despite being the least experienced of the three Bond Girls in the flick, she is the only one who survives to the end.

She is introduced in a fake wedding, with Bond going undercover as a Japanese fisherman.

Kissy managed to escape from a SPECTRE helicopter thanks to her experience as a pearl diver, meaning she can hold her breath underwater for a long time.

Actress Mie Hama was actually originally supposed to play the character Aki, while Akiko Wakabayashi was set to play Kissy.

However Hama struggled learning English for the role of Aki so the two stars switched places.

During shooting for the film, Hama came down with an illness so Sean Connery’s first wife Diane Cilento stood in for her in a swimming scene.

Hama appeared in a nude pictorial in Playboy in 1967 as the first Asian woman to appear in the magazine.

Tiffany Case (played by Jill St John in Diamonds Are Forever)

Tiffany Case is played by Jill St John in the 1971 film adaptation of Diamonds Are Forever.

It is explained in the movie that she was named after the place she was born, Tiffany & Co., where her parents were looking at wedding rings.

Tiffany is a small-time smuggler working for Bond’s enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld and his terrorist organisation SPECTRE.

Bond manages to forge a partnership with her while pretending to be a gangster called Peter Franks.

She believes the duo are going to make millions but eventually gets caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse when Blofeld’s henchmen start killing everyone involved in the smuggling chain.

By the end of the film, the duo defeat Blofeld and go to America on a romantic cruise.

They’re interrupted by an assassination attempt but Bond saves the day.
