GMB's Piers Morgan admits breaking Covid rules as he enters taxi without a mask

Piers Morgan has admitted breaking coronavirus rules after pictures emerged which show the Good Morning Britain host seeming to take a relaxed approach when it came to the coronavirus rules.

The 55-year-old, who in recent times has been the voice of the nation for slamming those who opted to break the rules, was photographed on-board a taxi and wasn’t wearing a face covering.

He tweeted: “I did breach Covid rules for a few seconds by forgetting to put my mask on before I got in the cab. Fortunately, I remembered as we pulled away and put it on. Masks help save lives, so it’s very important we all remember to wear them when we should.”

Piers earlier tweeted to his 7.7million followers: “I put my mask on seconds after this pic was taken, as the cab moved off.

“I should have done it before I got in but ironically, I was chatting to the paparazzi and I forgot.”

It would seem Piers and his wife Celia had both enjoyed a rare date night out at Harry’s Bar in London, before leaving in the back of the vehicle together.

Journalist and mum-of-one Celia stuck to the restrictions in place as she donned a chic pattered mask that complemented her on-trend attire before entering the taxi.

In the pictures, Piers can be seen crossing his leg as the vehicle began to pull away with his nose and mouth completely exposed.

According to the government’s official website, the rules stipulate that a face covering must be used when travelling in taxis or privately hired vehicles, unless you are exempt.

The website reads: “You must wear a face covering when using taxis or private hire vehicles.

“You will be breaking the law if you fail to do so and could be fined. A taxi driver or private hire vehicle operator will be entitled to refuse to accept you if you do not wear a face covering.”

Daily Star has contacted his representative for comment.

Ever since the outbreak of Covid-19 Piers Morgan has taken great delight with publicly shaming those who chose to break or bend the rules.

In more recent times the GMB star used his platform to blast the likes of Rita Ora, who came clean about flouting lockdown restrictions after she’d been exposed for hiring out a restaurant and inviting a number of guests to celebrate her birthday.

On the show, next to co-host Susanna Reid, he fumed that the Masked Singer UK judge was “selfish” as he said she was “only sorry she got caught”.

Rita issued an apology after it came to light that she had not been compliant with the rules.

The Anywhere hitmaker penned: “Hello all, I attended a small gathering with some friends to celebrate my 30th birthday. It was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be OK…

“I’m deeply sorry for breaking the rules an in turn understand that this puts people at risk.

“This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgement. Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility.

“I feel particularly embarrassed knowing first-hand how hard people have worked to combat this terrible illness and being fully aware of the sacrifices that people and businesses have made to help keep us all safe.

“Even though this won’t make it right, I want to sincerely apologise.”

Aside from celebrities, Piers has also slammed so-called “Covidiots” around the country for breaking rules.

Back in October he told the “Covidiots” to “f*** off” as he urged Boris Johnson to take more preventative measures for the country.

He tweeted: “Can all Covidiots please just unfollow me and f*ck off. This 2nd wave is extremely serious and I’m not interested in your insane conspiracy theories, your dumb fake charts, your ‘proof’ that covid’s ‘not as bad as the flu’ – or any of your ignorant abusive garbage.

“Our health and care workers are facing another incredibly tough, challenging and dangerous few months.

“I wish them all the very best of luck and thank each and every one for their heroic service.”
