Davina McCall has been a staple of British television since the early nineties, hosting everything from Big Brother to TV’s second greatest guessing game, The Masked Dancer.
A trained classical vocalist, she started out her career as a singer in the band Lazy Bear, eventually landing some work as a cabaret performer in Paris.
When she returned to London, she was scooped up to present on MTV Europe, appearing on Ray Cokes’ Most Wanted – and inspiring a career that would go on to span decades.
In that time, the presenter, 53, has enjoyed a number of high-profile romances, and spent 17 years married to another personality in the showbiz world.
Below, Daily Star has taken a look at everything Davina has shared about her love life over the years, her refreshing honesty a breath of fresh air to many in the entertainment industry.
Rock star romance
In her twenties, when she was focused on making music, Davina struck up a romance with Eric Clapton, famed as the rock and blues guitarist of the band Cream.
The pair even collaborated together on Davina’s demo tape, with Eric lending a legendary guitar solo to one of her tracks.
Reflecting on that period in her autobiography, Blood, Sweat, and Fears: Finding Ambition, Inner Strength, and a Fighting Spirit, Davina wrote: “I was a failed singer, I hadn’t got a record deal, I made a demo tape with Eric Clapton, how did I not get a record deal?
“He played guitar on my demo and I still didn’t get a record deal!”
Later, Eric – and the guidance of Narcotics Anonymous – helped Davina to recover from her heroin addiction, which had escalated in her early twenties.
Their romance failed to stand the test of time, and Davina went on to marry shop manager Andrew Leggett in 1997.
However, the couple divorced after three months, with Davina telling the Mirror in 2006: “I fell madly in love, but it was wrong, so I got out quick.
“I won’t talk about it because he’s not a celebrity and it’s not fair on him.”
Marriage to Matthew Robertson
Davina’s second marriage was to Matthew Robertson, who worked as a presenter on the TV series Pet Rescue – which following the nursing and rehoming of stray animals – at the time.
The pair walked down the aisle in 2000, with Davina wearing a strapless gown designed by Vera Wang, a classic white veil pinned to her bobbed haircut.
Taking place at St John the Baptist church in Eastnor, their celebrity friends were in attendance, with the likes of Zoe Ball and Dannii Minogue celebrating their marriage.
In the years that followed, Davina and Matthew went on to welcome three children together – Holly, 19, and Tilly, 17, and 14-year-old son Chester.
In 2015, they decided to renew their vows, heading to the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas to mark the occasion.
Sadly, two years later, Davina announced they had decided to end their marriage, sharing in a statement: “I am very sad to say that Matthew and I have separated.”
Davina has been open about the experience of going through a divorce, telling Good Housekeeping earlier this year: “My advice to friends of anyone going through it is: even if someone looks fine, support them.
“No one gets divorced without really thinking about it – this idea that people rush into it, that just doesn’t happen. It’s an enormous deal and it really is hard, so be there.”
Hairdresser boyfriend
Davina went public with her new relationship with celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas in 2019, the pair having been friends for years before things turned romantic.
This Morning fans will be well acquainted with Michael – during the pandemic, he frequently appeared on the show to offer helpful tips on cutting your hair from home.
Davina and Michael first met when he started doing her hair during the first series of Big Brother, and she started using him as her hairdresser after striking up a friendship behind the scenes on the show.

Speaking about their relationship on the podcast Making The Cut, Davina compared her relationship with Michael to “therapy”.
She said: “Having been on the receiving end of being in the chair while you do my hair, it is like therapy.
“You ‘therapied’ me for many, many, years!”
