The BBC are lining up a new presenter to step into Louise Minchin’s BBC Breakfast shoes after her emotional exit announcement last month.
The TV presenter announced she would be leaving the programme live on air while hosting the morning show on June 8 alongside her co-host Dan Walker.
Dan said: “We have some rather significant breakfast news coming your way. I say we, but Louise…”
And Louise said: “Just going to take a little bit of a deep breath. So, everybody, it’s something I just wanted to tell you about.
“It will be this year 20 years since I first presented this programme […] I have loved being a part of it, but there is a but. You know about the but. I have decided it is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3.40am.
“I am going to be leaving the programme,” she admitted.
Louise said at the time that it wouldn’t be “for a while”, and went on to thank viewers for their continued loyalty and support over the years.
And now the BBC is searching for someone to replace Louise on the red couch, having posted a job advertisement for a Chief Presenter.
The job description reads: “BBC Breakfast is seeking a Chief presenter to work with Dan Walker, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on the UK’s most watched morning show.
“With 6 million viewers every morning, the flagship Breakfast show combines news, sport, business and entertainment with real life stories.
“The key role is to inform and entertain viewers with everything they need for the day ahead.”
The role requires someone with “significant broadcasting experience” and is based at MediaCity in Salford, near Manchester.
Applicants are asked to submit a showreel of their past work, along with a CV and questionnaire.
The rumour mill has already been ablaze with speculation as to who Louise’s replacement could be, with some suggesting Eamonn Holmes of GMTV and This Morning fame could be taking up the mantle.
A source said last month: “Eamonn would be open to an approach about BBC Breakfast, following news of Louise Minchin’s departure.”
They told BelfastLive: “Manchester is somewhere he knows well, as he began his national television career in the city, on the BBC programme Open Air.”
