Love Island is here to keep us entertained throughout way may be a questionable British summer.
Live shows fill our screens at 9pm every evening except Saturdays, but have you ever wondered why there is no live show this day?
Being filmed and listened to for six days a week is tough, so one day a week the islanders reportedly get a much needed day off.
Every Saturday it is believed they take their mics off, head to the beach and relax, knowing they’re not being filmed.
Former Love Island winner and now TV presenter Kem Cetinay told This Morning: “They give you one day off. You get one day off per week.
“What happens is, it gives them a day to clean the villa, and you take your mics off, and normally we go to the beach.”
With the threat of Covid still lingering it is unsure to know whether they will have as much freedom as before, as each Islander had to isolate before entering the covid secure villa.
However, the ritual of having Saturdays off will likely still continue, but producers aren’t far away because the contestants still needing to be careful about what they talk about when away from their mics.
Kem explained: “So what happens is, when you take your mic off, you are not allowed to talk about anything to do with the show, you have to talk about home life.
“You are being watched by the producers because they don’t want you to talk about what is going on.
“They are quite careful about what you talk about because they want to keep it so everyone at home can see it.”
This day is also used for the villa to get a much needed clean and tidy whilst the islanders are doing their own thing. This is no doubt more important than ever during the pandemic.
Even though there is no live show, viewers can still get their dose of Love Island on Saturdays.
Ever Saturday at 9pm, Iain Stirling narrates a round-up of everything that has been happening in the villa over the past week, with a “selection of previously unaired moments”.
