Tipping Point's Ben Shephard left in hysterics as player shares badger issue

Tipping Point host Ben Shephard brought in Toyah Willcox, Sharron Davies and Rev Richard Coles to compete to win money for their chosen charities for a celebrity edition of the ITV quiz show which aired on Saturday afternoon.

The Reverend flew through the game, racking up over £8,000 from fallen tokens before shooting for £20,000 jackpot.

He had no problem answering questions correctly and knocking coins from the machine, with his success leading to Toyah asking the machine if the pair were friends.

The Reverend revealed he had been dealing with one particularly angry badger in his garden when he was posed with one question.

Ben asked: “Which of the following garden visitors are most likely to be categorised as insectivores?”

Richard was given the option of hedgehogs, foxes or badgers which prompted a response that left host Ben laughing.

Going through the process of elimination based on his own experience with each animal, he confessed he’d dealt with some aggression with badgers.

The Reverend confessed: “Well, I’ve got badgers in my back garden.”

Noticing that there might be more to the story, Ben asked: “Have you? What are they like?”

Richard said: “There’s one old bruiser badger who looks at me when I put the bins out at night and he likes a slug.

“Foxes… I have them too they like the rabbits an awful lot so I’m going to go for hedgehogs.”

Ben wasn’t letting the badger living in the garden go so easily, with the star reiterating: “So you’ve got a badger that likes to front you up at night, foxes we think like a little bit of meat along the way so surely the answer is hedgehogs.”

The Reverend made it through to the final round and after racking up over £8,000 he knocked down the jackpot counter bringing his total up to a staggering £20,000.

“Fabulous,” Ben said. “Well done you, absolutely sensational. You’ve been brilliant all the way through Richard.

“You have absolutely bossed the game, the machine and won £20,000. How does it feel?”

“I can’t quite believe it I won £20,000 which is going to be a very helpful and useful £20,000,” Richard replied.

“My charity is Parkinson’s UK. My father died a few years ago with Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s UK was a fantastic support to him, my mum and to my whole family.

“They’re on the brink of some really significant breakthroughs so £20,000 might just nudge them over into some really exciting places.”

Tipping Point airs on weekdays on ITV at 4pm.
