Love Island Winter Series: Are ITV planning another winter season?

During the pandemic last year plans for the usual summer of love in the iconic villa in Majorca, Spain were put on hold.

Thankfully, the bosses at ITV managed to fix our Love Island withdrawal with a new spin-off winter edition of the hugely popular ITV reality dating show.

The new winter edition of Love Island 2020 began with filming taking place in South Africa, Cape Town.

Fans were delighted with the announcement of the new winter season, giving us a double dose of Love Island in the space of a year.

The winter series only took place for six weeks, a shorter duration than the usual eight-week summer show.

Other than the time frame and location, the winter edition was exactly the same as any previous series, with plenty of re-couplings, drama and dumplings

The final of the winter series took place on February 23, seeing Paige Turley and Finely Tapp crowned as 2020 winners.

With runners up Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman, in third place, Demi Jones and Luke Mabbott and following fourth were Jess Gale and Ched Uzor.

The winter series first aired on 12 January 2020 but was announced at the end of 2019.

Despite being hotly anticipated, the winter series never took off and the ratings were not as strong as the summer show.

As a result, ITV axed the winter addition of Love Island after just one season and confirmed their focus would be on the current 2021 summer series.

Winter Love Island was confirmed to be “‘indefinitely postponed’ as bosses put all their energies until the summer series.”

The current annual summer edition of Love Island was pushed back by three weeks due to the pandemic but managed to make its way back to our screens this July.
