Love Island fans say show's yacht date is 'cursed' as Liberty and Jake split

Love Island fans were left devastated after Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish confirmed they had officially called time on their relationship on Friday night’s episode.

The Bristolian water engineer and Birmingham-born Nando’s waitress decided to call it quits after Liberty shared that she felt she was giving Jake “the ick” and wanted someone to love her for her.

Despite calling time on their romance, the couple still decided to go on their final date.

It was bittersweet for the estranged couple as the date took place onboard a luxurious yacht, after both of them had previously admitted it would be their dream date.

But instead of champagne and roses, the date was more awkward than amorous as the pair mutually decided to officially part ways and took the decision to leave the villa as friends.

Following the date, one eagle-eyed Twitter user took to Twitter and pointed out that Liberty and Jake joined a long line of Love Island couples who had fallen by the wayside after going on a yacht date on the show.

The Twitter user commented: “You know the relationship isn’t going to work when they put you on a boat #LoveIsland.” [sic]

Alongside the tweet, the social networker shared a split image of Liberty and Jake, alongside three other former Love Island couples, who had all enjoyed a Love Island yacht date but endured a breakup.

Megan Barton Hanson and Wes Nelson parted ways soon after the show

Alongside a picture of Jake and Liberty was a snap of Wes Nelson and Megan Barton Hanson, who enjoyed a passionate relationship on the 2018 series of Love Island…. and a date on a yacht.

Despite appearing to fancy the pants off each other on the show, the couple split soon after Love Island wrapped.

Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood had an acrimonious breakup

Also pictured onboard a yacht were Jesy Nelson’s ex Chris Hughes and former TOWIE star Olivia Attwood.

Despite both enjoying successful television careers following their stint on Love Island 2017, their relationship came to an acrimonious end, which played out on their short-lived reality show, Chris and Olivia: Crackin’ On.

Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea split soon after their win

The fourth yacht picture was of 2019 Love Island winners Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea.

Viewers were elated after Amber got with bombshell Greg after experiencing her fair share of heartache in the villa.

But Amber was devastated after Greg dumped her a few weeks after their win.
