ITV's Saturday Morning descends into chaos as chef James Martin's towel catches fire

Saturday Morning with James Martin took a dramatic turn during the latest episode as his tea towel caught fire.

The 49-year-old chef took a look back at his favourite food adventures on Saturday morning.

He took ITV viewers back to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in France, where he served up scallops in view of the people of the town.

However, the show was thrown into chaos when his tea towel caught alight, leaving him to put it out in the lake behind him.

As he finished talking, James quickly realised his tea towel was on fire.

The This Morning star said: “Talking of tea towels” as he tried to blow the tea towel and also stand on it to get rid of the fire.

However, it soon ended up having to be put into the canal, leaving James to showcase a giant hole that had been made in the towel.

He said to the camera: “Might need a new one, we just cook that with the lid on for about five minutes, gives me enough time to buy another tea towel.”

James’ on-air accident comes weeks after he hit back at claims he’s changed since becoming famous.

He recently appeared on the Knives, Forks & Tunes podcast alongside Michelin star culinary expert Paul Ainsworth.

In the episode titled James Martin Live From Travelling Feat, Paul talked to his guests about their fantasy dinner party.

James spoke about boats in the podcast, and this left Paul with the perfect window to annoy his close friend.

Paul said: “When you were telling that boat story, as soon as you mentioned there’s another boat with the boat. You’ve changed.”

Saturday Morning’s James was taken back and could not believe what he was hearing.

“What do you mean I’ve changed?,” he asked.

They then laughed together, as Paul cited another reason the chef had changed, as he wanted taboo and lemonade at his fantasy dinner party.

“You kids come along here in your bl***y shiny vans and your feasts, taking over the bl***y food world.

Like what you see? Then fill your boots…

“Remember where it all came from, don’t forget about us lot.”

Struggling to spit out his words, Paul was in hysterics.

In May, Paul told James how he had changed on his cooking show.

Paul said: “Supper? I was like, ‘James Martin’s changed’. It used to be tea when I met you.”

The TV star has presented James Martin’s Saturday Morning since 2017.

It airs in the same time slot as his former BBC show Saturday Kitchen, which he appeared on from 2006 until 2016.

Saturday Morning with James Martin airs Saturday on ITV at 9.30am
