Emmerdale fans will recognise Dawn's ex Alex as he has criminal connection to Corrie

The past always has a way of resurfacing in Emmerdale and for Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), a knock at the door on Monday, December 20’s episode saw a former boyfriend, Alex, show up.

Alex told Harriet (Katherine Dow Blyton) that several years ago he persuaded Dawn to try heroin, wanting her to become an addict like him. However, he also claimed to now regret his actions.

He told Harriet and Dawn that he’s now clean and asked after Dawn’s son Lucas.

When Lucas came into the room, viewers were shocked as Alex introduced himself as his real dad.

Dawn was understandably furious with Alex, but he told her he just wants a chance to get to know his son.

Meena causes trouble for Alex

In a worrying development, serial killer Meena (Paige Sandhu) was seen lurking in the background.

Despite all this drama, soap fans may have been scratching their heads wondering where they’d seen actor Liam Boyle, who plays Alex, before.

In 2019, Liam, 36, played David Platt’s prison cellmate Abe Crowley in Coronation Street.

ITV viewers may also recognise him from detective drama Scott & Bailey where he played troubled Dominic Bailey, younger brother to Suranne Jones’ Rachel.

Liam is no stranger to Soapland

Liam has also appeared in shows including Drop Dead Gorgeous, Spooks: Code 9, Shameless, Skins: Rise, The Bill, Casualty and Doctors.

Meanwhile, Emmerdale viewers are eagerly awaiting the show’s Christmas episodes.

Spoilers include Meena causing trouble by telling Alex that Lucas isn’t safe to be with Dawn, leaving him to make an impulsive decision.

Meanwhile, Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) continues to dig into the death of Meena’s friend (and first victim) Nadine.

Alex crosses paths with Billy

She makes contact with Carol, Nadine’s sister, and is shocked when Carol says she believes Meena murdered Nadine.

And Christmas Day will see the villagers awake to a thin dusting of what appears to be snow. The episode will then flashback to the hours that preceded this flurry.

Viewers will see The Woolpack explode – but what causes it? And who dies?

Emmerdale continues at 7pm weeknights, and also 8pm Thursday on ITV
