Dancing on Ice viewers have begged ITV chiefs for Stephen Mulhern to continue on the programme.
The hilarious Catch Phrase host proved to be quite popular with folk watching at home as they flooded social media with praise after he’d stepped in while Phillip Schofield had been absent.
Over the last week, Phillip who usually fronts the skating show, needed to step back from all hosting duties after he had tested positive for Covid-19.
Holly and Stephen proved to have a great rapport with one another – with the pair having worked together on children’s TV over twenty years ago.
Their reunion and bond on-air didn’t go unnoticed by fans of the show who flocked to Twitter to beg ITV bosses “to keep” Stephen in the role.
One tweet read: “Can we keep Stephen Mulhern? Better than Phillip boring Schofield”
A second person penned: “I’m voting to eliminate Phillip Schofield and keep Stephen Mulhern!”
Another agreed: “Please keep Stephen Mulhern, he’s so much better than Phil. Even Holly looks like she’s enjoying herself.”
“Holly tonight was literally the woman who has got away from her annoying husband finally for a few hours to let her hair down with her best mate,” said a fourth.
Ahead of the live show, a spokesperson for ITV confirmed that Stephen would backfill the post while Phillip recovered at home.
They said: “This Sunday’s episode of Dancing on Ice will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern while Phillip Schofield continues to self-isolate.”
In a statement, Stephen announced: “I’m very much looking forward to being back hosting alongside my good friend Holly this weekend.
“It’s big shoes to fill and I’m wishing Phillip a speedy recovery.
“I’m a big fan of Dancing on Ice and for one night only I’m thrilled to be rink side watching the action unfold.
“It’s going to be unbelievable!”
