EastEnders' Ricky Champ and wife suffered devastating miscarriage before second child

EastEnders actor Ricky Champ’s wife Samantha has revealed via an Instagram Q&A that they suffered a miscarriage.

Ricky’s wife Samantha experienced the miscarriage before falling pregnant with their second child.

Ricky, 41, who plays Stuart Highway in the BBC1 soap, revealed last month that his wife gave birth to baby number two.

During a Q&A on Instagram, Samantha opened up about the heartbreaking loss and admitted she feels lucky to have conceived again.

One listener asked: “Was baby number 2 planned?”

Samantha replied: “Yes baby 2 was planned. I always wanted to wait until B was more independent, but not so long that they wouldn’t be close.”

Ricky added: “We had a loss in August, which was very sad, so I feel lucky to have fallen pregnant again so soon after.”

The soap star and Samantha already have a four-year-old daughter called Beatrix.

In EastEnders, Ricky’s character Stuart and his wife Rainie Cross previously suffered similarly to the real life couple.

In heartbreaking scenes, the fictional couple were left devastated when Rainie was rushed to the hospital shortly after sharing her pregnancy news with Stuart.

Despite being ecstatic at the news that they could become parents, the doctor in the soap shared the heartbreaking news that there was no baby during a scan visit.

Ricky is currently involved in another big storyline which sees his character Stuart diagnosed with breast cancer.

Ricky said about the storyline: “I feel honoured to be trusted with such an important storyline.

“We will see Stuart really struggle with the fact he has cancer, and to learn that it’s breast cancer is really difficult for him to understand.”

Ricky first made his first appearance as Stuart in May 2018.

What EastEnders fans didn’t know about the actor was that he made his first appearance in Albert Square more than a decade ago.

Ricky featured as a role as a photographer who arrived at Queen Vic to take pictures of Sam Mitchell (Daniella Westbrook).
