Despite Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean’s intimate relationship on the ice, the ice-skating champions are actually just friends – except for a “one-off” kiss.
The duo, who won gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, may be forgiven for thinking the couple are romantically together, especially thanks to their sensual Bolero routine which they’re most famously known for.
But the undeniable connection between the two has always been strictly professional, except for one secret kiss that many people may not be aware of.
When the Dancing On Ice icons were both teenagers they teamed up for the first time back in 1975, and it was during this time that the then teenagers shared a candid smooch.
In a 2018 interview with Radio Times, Jayne said: “We were in the back of the bus going to a league match, and it just happened. It was a one-off. We never talked about it afterwards. We laugh about it now.”

The pair insisted that the one-off kiss ended there and, as Chris said in the same interview, competing was the pair’s only focus.
“We were 14 years old, and teenagers in the most naïve sense, we didn’t talk about it much after,” he said.
“We got close but at some point realised that we weren’t going to make a relationship off the ice in terms of a romantic one.”
Jayne added that she believes the Bolero got fans speculating due to its romantic nature, leading to many convinced their relationship was more than just friends.

Despite this, the twosome are very close friends and talk almost daily.
Jayne has been married to sound engineer Phil Christensen since 1990 and they adopted two children after struggling to conceive naturally.
Meanwhile, Chris’s first marriage was to French-Canadian World ice dance champion Isabelle Duchesnay, until they divorced two years later when he fell for American skater Jill Trenary.
Chris and Jill tied the knot in October 1994 and had two sons together, Jack Robert and Sam Colin, but announced they were separating in March 2010.
It comes as Chris and Jayne appeared on last night’s (April 26) episode of ITV’s DNA Journey, which sees celebrities discover where they came from and unearth their family history via DNA and genealogy technology.
During the show, Chris shared heartbreaking details about his childhood, including when his mother, Mavis, left home when he was six years old.
Christopher soon after came to learn that his father, Colin, had been having an affair.
