Martin Roberts has revealed he had “minutes of life left” during a recent health scare.
The Homes Under The Hammer host, 58, appeared on the latest episode of This Morning, where he opened up about being rushed to hospital last month.
The I’m A Celeb alum underwent surgery to drain excess fluid which was putting pressure on his heart and speaking to presenters Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes, Martin revealed he only had “minutes of life left” during the terrifying ordeal.
Confirming that he thought he might die, Martin said: “We’re talking minutes/hours of life left here.
“You need a great team to spot it and you need some fairly specialist equipment and skills to sort it out.”
During his interview, Martin revealed that after a period of ill-health, he eventually decided to visit A & E after becoming “delirious”.
Of his speech, he said: “I was putting letters the wrong way around.”
Martin credited the doctors and nurses with correctly identifying his medical ailment and swiftly proceeding with surgery.
Of his traumatic ordeal, Martin added: “It really was minutes [that] made all the difference.
“By the time they got to me, my kidneys were at 30 per cent my liver was at 30 per cent, my lungs.
“It wasn’t that my lungs weren’t working.
“It was that my heart wasn’t able to pump the blood so it wasn’t getting the oxygen and at any point I could have had a heart attack.”
Martin appeared on the ITV programme alongside his wife Kirsty.
After revealing that “things are moving in the right direction” with his health, Martin also later confirmed that he will begin filming Homes Under The Hammer again in the next few weeks.
He joked: “Hopefully, I’ll get the nicer properties and they’ll cherry pick the good ones rather than the really bad ones.”
This Morning airs from 10am on weekdays on ITV.
