Liam Payne went to US wellness clinic after becoming someone he ‘didn’t recognise’

Liam Payne has revealed that he spent time in a wellness clinic in America after reaching a point where he was in “bad shape”.

The One Direction singer opened in a video on YouTube entitled “I’m back”, sharing that he checked into the clinic after his controversial appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast.

During the interview with Logan, the star made comments about his time in One Direction, implying it was built around him and suggesting he wasn’t a fan of bandmate Zayn Malik, which sparked a backlash at the time.

“I just needed to take a little bit of time out for myself,” Liam said in his video, in which he also shared that he’d been sober for six months.

“Because I kind of became somebody who I didn’t really recognise any more and I’m sure you guys didn’t either.”

Addressing the podcast, the singer said he wanted to apologise.

“I was so angry at what was going on around me and instead of taking a look inwards I decided to look outwards at everybody else and just took it out on everybody else which is just wrong really, and my own frustrations with my own career and where I kind of landed,” he explained.

“The rest of the boys have really stuck by me and when I needed them most they kind of came to the rescue, even Zayn,” he went on.

Liam, 29, said the podcast was “hard for me to watch back” but that it was “probably one of those life changing moments that saved my life in a way”.

Deciding he had to get away for a bit, he headed to the centre in Louisiana.

While he was there he was cut off from the world to some extent and didn’t have a phone for almost 100 days.

“I was in bad shape up until that point and I was really happy more than anything when I arrived to kind of put a stopper on life and work,” he said.

The star said he was grateful to his ex-Cheryl and their son Bear, for giving him that space to “go and get well”.

“There is no point trying to be a dad when you have nothing to teach,” he said, adding that he feels he has “got more of a grip on life now”.
