Across the US are tens of thousands of trailer parks offering low-cost housing to Americans and it’s estimated that more than 20 million people are currently living in the mobile caravan sites.
But while they’re traditionally seen as a more affordable way of living, one trailer park is so expensive, only the rich and famous can afford to live on the lavish site — and it’s attracted celebs including Pamela Anderson and Matthew McConaughey.
Dubbed “America’s most glamorous trailer park”, Paradise Cove stretches across one of the most iconic beaches on the highly-sought after Malibu coast.

The private waterfront community has 265 trailers with multi-million dollar sea views, access to stunning private beaches, communal tennis courts and a clubhouse.
It was originally developed in the 1950s when fishermen started parking their trailers near the water and by the 1970s, the 100-trailer site was expanded to add another 165 mobile homes which sold for around $70,000, the New York Times reports.
But the pads at Paradise Cove aren’t your average trailers. The luxury mobile homes, which range from 400 to 1,000 square feet, look more like stylish homes and often feature full-sized modern kitchens and bedrooms, elegant living spaces and even outdoor areas with fire pits and hot tubs.
They don’t come cheap though and the mobile homes will now set you back millions of dollars after prices at the prestigious caravan site skyrocketed.
For some residents, the million-dollar trailers still seem like a good deal compared to nearby house prices.
Artist Grant Shumate, who purchased a trailer at Paradise Cove with his girlfriend, Sophie Howard, told the New York Times: “We have the same view of the beach as our neighbours who paid $65 million for their homes.”
Sophie revealed the trailers, some of which are just 10 feet away from the neighbouring caravan, come with one downside though.
She said: “You have to shut the doors to watch TV and if you want to have sex, forget about it!”
But while you might have some nearby neighbours inside, the guard-gated entrance provides privacy perfect for protecting A-list residents from watchful eyes and it’s quickly become a celebrity hotspot.
Back in 2010 Baywatch star Pamela Anderson even revealed she’d switched life in her Malibu mansion in favour of a two-bedroom mobile home at Paradise Cove, where she lived with her two sons.
She told the Mirror: “The boys and me love the trailer park, it’s a special community, we’re happy here.
“It’s the most beautiful place, it’s where I take my motorcycle, my surfboard.
“There are firemen with their children, surfers, all sorts. The children are so happy. I wouldn’t trade my life with anyone.”
It’s not known how much the trailer set the actress back, but in 2018, she listed it for sale for just under $2million.
Pamela isn’t the only celeb to love the trailer park. More than two decades ago, British-American actress Minnie Driver purchased a double-wide mobile home on the site.
The Hollywood star, who rose to fame in the 1995 movie Circle of Friends, had been looking for somewhere near the water to seek respite from the “boiling hot” Southern California sun when she came across the park.
“It was the best thing that I ever did, I couldn’t have carried on living and working in Los Angeles if I hadn’t found this place,” she told PEOPLE.
And while Minnie’s main residence is a vintage home in the Hollywood Hills, she still adores her Paradise Cove trailer and even had it remodelled into a chic coastal retreat in 2019.
Among one of the most vibrant mobile homes on the site is fashion designer Betsey Johnson’s pink pad.
She purchased the single-story home for $1.9million back in 2016 and has kitted it out in her iconic eclectic style.
Another A-lister to frequent the site is Matthew McConaughey. The Dallas Buyers Club star owns a beloved custom Airstream trailer and when he’s not driving it around the country, he parks it up at Paradise Cove.
While showing Architectural Digest around the 28-foot trailer back in 2008, he told them it’s “a little vacation spot” as he revealed he’d nicknamed the trailer “the Canoe”.
But the most recent celeb to join the tight-knit trailer community is American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson who snapped up a 500-square-foot Paradise Cove trailer as soon as it became available during the first year of the Covid pandemic.
The former New Yorker was inspired to purchase the Malibu beach property after visiting a friend who lives nearby.
While showing off the tiny home earlier this year, she told Architectural Digest: “The ocean never called to me. I’m the person who’s afraid there’s a shark in my bathtub. But the beach was stunning.
“How did I live here for so many years and not understand the beauty of the coastline?”
