Love Island finalist Ella Thomas broke major show rule after argument with co-star

Love Island star Ella Thomas managed to check her Instagram followers while still on the show, despite the use of phones being strictly prohibited.

The influencer, 23, was a huge personality in the villa and finished in third place with boyfriend Tyrique Hyde. Ella grew close to many of the girls on the show, including Whitney Adebayo.

But towards the end of the series, the duo landed themselves in a spat over a “selfish” remark. In a bid to sort out their differences one-on-one, they were escorted out of the villa by producers.

What producers didn’t realise is that they allowed Ella to break one of the biggest rules. The girls were taken to the location via individual taxis without chaperones and Ella wasted no time in getting her hands on a phone.

She managed to check her Instagram followers, as well as the followers of her fellow islanders. Speaking on Capital XTRA while co-hosting a special Christmas show, Ella said: “Okay, do you know what? I’ve not told anybody but you this story, so this is exclusive.

“There was just me [in this cab] with this Spanish driver and she was nice enough to trust me with her phone, but I was like, ‘This is an opportunity.’ It was like seven weeks in, I was like, ‘I haven’t been on a phone in time – let me see what my Instagram’s saying.’

“I was quickly on Instagram, checking my followers; I checked everyone in the villa’s followers. I went back to Ty and was like, ‘You’ve got this many, she’s got this many…'” She added: “You gotta do what you gotta do.”

This wasn’t the only time the islanders reportedly managed to make contact with the outside world. Catherine Agbaje claimed they had access to the internet when Mehdi Edno left as someone managed to get hold of his phone.

Catherine, 23, said: “Someone had access to the internet and someone was searching it up and we all got called in and I was like I have nothing to do with that but I’m not going to say who or anything like that, but that was something that went on. So we actually had access to the internet.

“I don’t know who did, well I do know who did, but I wasn’t there and I didn’t witness it so whatever.” A Love Island representative denied her claims at the time.
