Masked Singer Maypole ‘exposed’ – show first, pop star and former Prime Minister

The Masked Singer UK fans have been scratching their heads over the identity of Maypole.

So far three contestants have been unmasked on the fifth series of the ITV wacky guessing game show as Weather, Chicken Caesar and Rat were told to remove their masks.

However, Maypole has been impressing fans with her performances, which have included Never Gonna Not Dance Again by Pink and Emeli Sand’e’s Clown.

So far guesses from the panel have included Cheryl, Beverley Knight, and even former PM Theresa May and fan theories currently appear to be circling mostly around the Pussycat Dolls’ former singer Melody Thornton.

As panelists Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan, and a host of special guests, try to figure out who is behind the mask, Daily Star has taken a look at some clues and theories which point of Maypole’s true identity.

Rita Ora

Fans have suggested that mysterious Maypole might be missing panellist Rita playing a joke on her fellow Masked Singer co-stars

Fans have suggested that mysterious Maypole might be missing panellist Rita playing a joke on her fellow judges – something Mo also suggested on the first show. While Rita was reported to be absent from the show due to scheduling conflicts, could this all be a ruse so that she can surprise everyone with a turn under a mask herself?

Cheryl

Guest judge Olly Murs, standing in for a missing Rita, declared that Girls Aloud icon and former X Factor judge Cheryl was Maypole. Unbelievably this could be linked to the “bear it” clue as her son with One Direction singer Liam Payne is called Bear. While she’s preparing for a tour next year, Fight For This Love hitmaker Cheryl could be taking some time out to perform as Maypole?

Beverley Knight

After Maypole’s second performance, panelist Jonathan guessed West End star and singing sensation Beverley Knight could be behind the Maypole disguise. On the night, a voiceover clue said: “Mayday, mayday. The panel’s guesses have got me in a spin. Well, they are all going in one direction. I can stand rain and shine. You have to be resilient to survive this island. And this isn’t my first rodeo. Finding a perfect match is easy when you’re made of wood. Well, sometimes it is. Oh well. I almost chose a different field that was poles apart. But this habit is hard to break. Time to go for another whirl.”

Theresa May

Jonathan is known for going more left-field with his guesses. In one of Maypole’s clue package, they were seen running through a field, which immediately reminded him of former Prime Minister Theresa May’s revelation that one of the naughtiest things she’s ever done in her life is run through a field of wheat. Taking the “pole” from Maypole’s name to refer to a voting poll, and the “May” to possibly nod to the politician’s surname, he decided to choose her as his guess after her first performance.

Based on clues including how she claimed Masked Singer UK was not her first rodeo, Pussycat Dolls star Melody competed and won The Masked Singer Australia in 2022 and her mention of an island pointed towards the fact that the pop star did Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls. One fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Maypole- Melody Thornton ‘not my first rodeo’ she won Masked Singer Australia. ‘Manchester, Glasgow, Shanghai’ – these are locations she played lead in The Bodyguard and ‘since the year of Orwell’, she was born in 1984 which is the title of George Orwell’s book.”

The Masked Singer UK airs Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX
