EastEnders’ Sharon star Letitia Dean dropped four dress sizes after ditching one thing

Letitia has played Sharon Watts on the BBC soap since 1985 and has gone from a size 10st 4lbs to a gobsmacking 8st 3lbs in just four months. She achieved her epic weight loss by cutting out junk food from her diet.

Everyone knows that diets can be a tricky business, and it wasn’t any different for Letitia. After admitting to trying out various “faddy diets” without much success, it was her appearance on strictly -come-dancing>Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 that prompted her to overhaul her lifestyle.

Letitia told Closer: “The main reason I wanted to do something about my figure was that I was so sick of extreme dieting and my weight yo-yoing. I just woke up one morning, and I’d had enough. For years and years – as long as I can remember – my weight had yo-yoed up and down. I’d go on fad diets like Atkins or I’d only eat eggs.”

Despite managing to “lose a stone in a couple of weeks” through tough diets, Letitia found this wasn’t sustainable and she would inevitably revert to her old habits and regain the weight “on again”. Now, she sticks to a balanced diet of 1,300 calories a day, and pairs her healthy eating with exercises like running and boxercise.

According to the NHS website, the general recommended calorie intake is around 2,000 calories per day for women and 2,500 calories per day for men. Nutrition experts suggest a balanced approach to food, encouraging people to eat “a wide variety of foods in the right proportions”, while also drinking plenty of fluids.

This includes eating at least five portions of fruit and veg daily and preparing meals based around higher fibre starchy foods, such as potatoes, bread, pasta, or rice. Proteins like beans, pulses, eggs, fish, and meat should also be part of a balanced diet, along with dairy products or non-dairy alternatives.
