Men Behaving Badly’s Neil Morrissey has spoken of his upset after “foolishly” falling victim to scammers.
The actor was duped by a phone message and taken for hundreds of pounds. Neil said: “It’s upsetting, because it makes you feel foolish but these scammers are really clever.
“I once got a text telling me a parcel hadn’t been delivered but I could get it for something like £2.70. I did that and they took a couple of hundred quid. Luckily, I got the money back because I contacted the bank quickly.”

Neil, 61, is now starring with Sally Lindsay in Channel 5 drama Love Rat, which is about a holiday romance con. He said the show “will touch everyone who’s been scammed”. Meanwhile, Sally, 50, said she felt a responsibility to show the devastation caused to victims, in the series which starts on Monday.
She plays mum-of-one Emma in the four-part thriller, who books a holiday in Cyprus and falls for a charismatic hotelier called Niko.
Sally said: “I’’s sad how prolific it is.” It comes after Neil suggested he regrets his affair with Britain’s Got Talent beauty Amanda Holden, after it caused the breakdown of her marriage to Les Dennis.
The two television stars had a short-lived affair, with their romance being exposed in 2000. Since then, Neil has spoke of it a couple of times, with his most recent time making his stance clear. He appeared on Line Of Duty actor Martin Compson’s podcast, Restless Natives, and brought it up. He was asked to share three pieces of life advice with listeners. He said: “Don’t p*** into the wind. A gentleman’s socks should always match his shoes.”
He finished by saying: “Don’t f*** a game show host’s wife.” His frank confession caused Martin to burst out laughing. Amanda fell for Les in 1993, when she was 22 and he was 40. They had both been appearing in a production of The Sound Of Music.
They tied the knot two years later, but it broke down when it was revealed she had been having an affair with Neil in 2000. She would later suggest she was missing “love and affirmation”. Amanda said previously: “I terribly want children but I didn’t want to have them with Les. That’s a horribly brutal thing to say, but when you do, you know you have to move on.”
She added: “I found the fall from grace incredibly hard to deal with. I can’t bear not to be liked. Then I had an affair and overnight turned into this awful person. There are no hard feelings with Les. I wish him the best, but we’ve both moved on. I don’t believe women have affairs for no reason. Women don’t seek sex – we seek love and affirmation.”
Amanda is now happily married to television producer Chris Hughes, with the couple sharing daughters Lexi and Hollie. Neil was previously married to actress Amanda Noar, though they divorced in 1991.
