Made In Chelsea star Louise Thompson has bravely showed off her stoma bag after undergoing an operation to treat her ulcerative colitis problem.
The 34-year old, who rose to fame on the E4 reality show in 2011, took to Instagram on Tuesday (April 9) to tell her fans she’d had her colon removed six years after being diagnosed. Louise has been blighted by illness further since giving birth in 2021, and was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress and lupus.
Now, she has a more positive outlook on life after bidding farewell to her “nasty menacing colon”, believing the surgery “may well have saved her life”.

Addressing her 1.4million followers, Louise shared a video of herself standing in her bedroom as she unzipped her jeans to give a glimpse of her colostomy bag underneath.

“HOW DO I DISCLOSE THIS SORT OF NEWS?” she penned in a caption. “It’s not exactly exciting like a big pregnancy or gender reveal announcement! Hey look I’m having a boy… Hey look I’ve got a stoma!”
Louise continued: “So I guess I’ll just stand here. Proud in stature. With my new friend Le bum bag that represents life. And hopefully a better one. Isn’t it bizarre that this little grey pouch is the price I pay for good health! I say good riddance to that nasty menacing colon! Please be kind.”

According to the NHS, ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition where the colon and rectum become inflamed. Small ulcers can develop on the colon’s lining, and can bleed and produce pus. Sufferers often endure symptoms including a loss of appetite and weight loss, extreme fatigue, pain and swelling, and recurrent diarrhoea.
Smiling for the camera in her video, Louise declared: “Introducing the grey bag that may well have saved my life.” Her fans and celebrity pals were quick to praise her courage, meanwhile, with Zara McDermott responding: “When you think about it, it’s a beautiful thing because it means less time in hospital, less time in pain, less time with a poison organ in your body! Now you are free my girl. Now it’s time for YOU.”

A fellow colitis sufferer added: “Welcome to the club! Mine saved my life too. I’m so pleased you’ve shared this news, I had an inkling from your posts. I’m three years post op and back to working full time and have done two triathlons. You’ve got this.”
Another gushed: “Courage looks good on you. As a UC sufferer, i think what you just did there is your biggest professional accomplishment.” And a third wrote “As a woman with an ostomy, (who always adored you on MIC) I just want to say thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve spent the past few years trying to normalise having an ostomy, but for someone with your platform to be brave enough to share it is incredible and will help so many people. Hope your recovery and adjustment period is as smooth as it can be.”
