Britain’s Got Talent future ‘sealed’ after ‘telling sign’ ITV show has ‘run its course’

Britain’s Got Talent’s future on air has been ‘confirmed’ – and fans will be gutted.

Since 2004, the iconic ITV show has been a staple on the telly. With Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly at the helm, the series has catapulted several musical and talent acts into stardom.

The likes of Diversity, Susan Boyle and Callum Scott all made their name thanks to Britain’s Got Talent. And the brand new 17th series, is set to be its best yet.

However, the show has recently failed to bag the viewers it once had. Last year’s final saw 5.3 million people tune in, making it the lowest-rated finale in the ITV show’s 16-year history.

Now, after 17 years, it’s been claimed that this series might be its last. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, PR expert Rochelle White told us how the drop in viewership could be a “telling sign” Britain’s Got Talent has run its course.

“I do feel that the show has run its course,” she revealed. Rochelle added: “Like most things that have been running for a long time, it either needs a refresh, change or not to come back.

“The fact that the viewership has dropped is kind of a telling sign,” she added. Rochelle then noted how the format “is dated” and most acts are “very similar to previous years.”

Rochelle went on: “That type of content gets old quickly and starts to become boring and unrelatable. Also, the show wouldn’t be missed massively if it was the last series.”

However, Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo told Daily Star that there is “undoubtedly some vitality left in the show yet.” He revealed: “Britain’s Got Talent has been on the air for an impressive 17 years, marking a significant milestone in both modern TV standards and undoubtedly in the eyes of ITV. “

But Dom then noted: “On the other hand, the 2023 finale garnered 5.3 million viewers, a figure notably lower than the 18 million who tuned in to witness Diversity’s victory over Susan Boyle in 2009. Despite this decline, it’s still a respectable number by current standards. He added: “When considering revenue from advertisements and sponsorships, it’s evident that Britain’s Got Talent remains a lucrative venture for ITV. While it may be approaching its twilight years, there’s undoubtedly some vitality left in the show yet.”
