Teen Mom star Amber Portwood’s fiancé has gone missing, with police launching an urgent investigation into his disappearance.
Gary Wayt was last seen on Sunday, June 9, in Bryson City, North Carolina. The pair had been staying in a VRBO cabin in the small town, which is around 60 miles west of Asheville. Amber filed a missing person report on Monday, June 10.
According to The Sun, the sheriff’s department stated: “We are still trying to find him at the moment, he’s been missing since June 9.” Gary is described as being six foot, 205 pounds, and bald with brown eyes. He drives a 2009 Nissan Rogue with Indiana state plates.

Amber and Gary reportedly got engaged in May 2024 after dating since 2023. According to Us Weekly, Amber is “really, really happy” with her new man, with her engagement ring crafted from “a family stone that was reset into a new ring”.

A source told the publication the pair were “in couple’s therapy” and that they “talk about everything” together. Amber told police Gary hails from Indianapolis, Indiana – and has no roots in the area he went missing in.
The Bryson City Police Department have now issued a statement on social media appealing for information, with pictures of 39-year-old Gary attached.

Sources told Us Weekly about Amber’s romance with her new man: “They’re being very proactive in their relationship and are doing the work to prevent problems before they start. She met him on a dating app four months ago. They are taking their time getting to know each other, but it’s getting serious.”
Gary had reportedly never watched Teen Mom, which saw Amber and baby daddy Gary Shirley welcome daughter Leah, 15. She was first introduced to MTV fans way back in 2009, when she starred on 16 and Pregnant.

Amber remained in front of the cameras for Teen Mom and Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, until 2022 – though she and baby daddy Shirley split in 2011. Amber is also mum to James, six, with ex Andrew Glennon. James lives in California with his dad – and Amber does not have custody of him.
