Girls Aloud star ‘set to join Strictly 2024’ as she follows in bandmate’s footsteps

Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts has been tipped to do Strictly 2024.

The BBC ballroom show’s return is just a couple of months away and the rumour mill is in overdrive about which celebs might be trying their luck on the dancefloor this year. According to bookies, Nicola could be following in her bandmate Kimberley Walsh’s footsteps and competing on the show.

Ladbrokes currently has odds of 3/1 of her being in the line-up, and the Mirror quoted the firm’s Alex Apati as saying: “Strictly chiefs are aiming high this year, if the latest rumours are anything to go by – and the odds suggest Nicola Roberts could soon be the second Girls Aloud member to take to Britain’s most iconic dancefloor.”

Kimberley was a Strictly Come Dancing contestant in 2012 and finished second with her pro partner Pasha Kovalev. And Nicola herself had a twirl around the ballroom when she took part in the Christmas special in 2022.

The 38-year-old chart star was paired with the now departed pro Giovanni Pernice and the pair clocked up some high scores, including a string of 10s. However, Nicola was pipped to the post by Corrie’s Alexandra Mardell, who won the festive contest that year.

Girls Aloud fans are keen to see Nicola take another twirl, this time in the main contest, and many have posted messages on social media saying they hope it does happen. “I need to see Nicola on it,” one person wrote on X. Another confessed: “If Nicola Roberts is on Strictly this year I will actually sob.”

“Please be true,” prayed another of Nicola’s admirers.

Other stars thought to be in the mix this year include YouTuber GK Barry, Homes Under The Hammer host Martin Roberts and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham. Radio host Roman Kemp has also been mentioned and comedian Chris McCausland has confirmed he’s pondered signing up.

“I’m thinking about it,” he said on This Morning last month. Chris, who lost his sight more than 20 years ago due to a hereditary condition, added: “It would be so fun.”

There has also been some talk about documentary legend Louis Theroux signing up, and some people think Phillip Schofield could make his TV comeback on the show. The presenter has been largely out of the spotlight since May 2023, when he left This Morning amid a scandal that saw him admitting tohaving had an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger ITV staff member.

However, he has started posting the odd snap on Instagram and has been seen out and about, and it’s thought his return could be on the cards.
