Matt Willis forced to defend getting tattoo of wife Emma – to Emma after backlash

Matt Willis has clapped back at criticism after revealing a massive tattoo tribute to his wife Emma Willis for their wedding anniversary.

The 41 year old performer showed off an enormous ink portrait of his missus on his leg, capturing Emma, aged 48, in a daring dress and a sassy pose with her lips puckered up.

The Busted star got inked to celebrate 16 years of marital bliss this July, despite previously confessing that Emma isn’t exactly over the moon about the tat, mainly because it’s based on an old snap of her.

Social media was abuzz with fans who were puzzled by the tattoo, with some struggling to recognise the former Big Brother presenter. One fan quizzed: “Who’s the lady in the tattoo? “.

Another chimed in: “Happy anniversary but not sure that’s a great likeness to Emma.”

A third was equally baffled, commenting: “Lovely idea but doesn’t look anything like her? “.

Now, Matt, who co-hosts Love Is Blind: UK on Netflix with his other half, has hit back at the mixed feedback on his latest body art. On his On The Mend podcast, where he gets real about his mental health and addiction struggles, he responded to questions about the pain and Emma’s take on the tattoo.

He revealed: “Yes, it did hurt. If anyone doesn’t know, I got a new tattoo for my wedding anniversary. We’ve been married for 16 years and I thought I’d get my wife a present by getting her tattooed on my leg.

“It was a lovely thought. They say when you have plans, God laughs right, and whatever that means, but I had all these grand plans, and a big gesture of love, and I thought she was going to love it.

“It wasn’t that response shall we say. She wasn’t overjoyed, she was just like ‘oh, so you got a tattoo of me, on you, for my anniversary present’ and I was like ‘yeah’. It wasn’t quite the desired response. But I love it, I love it, I think it’s cute.

“Do you know what? I’m in the habit of replying to comments on Instagram now because I put clips of the podcast on and talk about On The Mend so I go in and respond to people because I really like the interaction.

“And I’m in the habit of checking comments now. I obviously put a picture of my tattoo on when I first had it done, it was raw and black and I put it up on Instagram and I’ve never had so many negative comments about anything I’ve put up in my life.

“It was a real test. It was like ‘oh, how do I feel about these negative comments’ but I kept going back to what I say, what people say about me is none of my business.”
