EastEnders fans didn’t expect one star to appear in a nineties music video.
Fans of the BBC One soap will know exactly who Billy Mitchell is. Actor Penny Fenwick, 62, has played the role for over two decades, where he’s been a part of the infamous Mitchell family.
But one year before he set foot on Albert Square in 1998, he appeared somewhere very different indeed. Fans have spotting him in a Matrix-like music video for the song Block Rockin’ Beats by the Chemical Brothers in 1997.

In the video for the electronic duo, who have won six Grammy Awards, Perry played a detective. He’s seen in a long trench coat chasing after criminals through the streets of London, at one point searching a nightclub for the duo.
At the end of the video, he wields a gun and shoots the two troublemakers after tracking them down. Fans of the soap couldn’t believe the Billy Mitchell star had such a cameo.
Taking to Reddit, one wrote: “I totally didn’t expect to see him in this video. It’s not recorded on his Wikipedia page or the page for the song itself!”.
Another commented: “Billy Mitchell looks like a true gangster in this music video and I never heard of this music. Until I saw it on here. I can’t wait to listen to it.”
The Chemical Brothers scored a number one on the official UK singles chart with the hit. They bagged 13 top 20 singles in the UK and their Grammy wins include Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Rock Instrumental Performance, and Best Dance Recording.
Perry has also appeared elsewhere, having starred in ITV police drama The Bill five times as different characters. He’s also starred in sitcom The Thin Blue Line with Rowan Atkinson, ITV comedy Minder, and films such as gang flick Empire State.
The soap star has also won plenty of acclaim for his time on EastEnders, with 10 award nominations for his role that include the National Television Awards, the TV Choice Awards and the British Soap Awards.
