The Traitors star found dead in brutal murder as series pulled from schedules

The Traitors’ spin-off in Finland has delayed the air date of its finale due to the real-life murder of a contestant.

The reality show has postponed the broadcast of its season finale after Janne Puhakka was allegedly killed by a shotgun. The 29-year-old ex-ice hockey star was found shot dead at his home in Espoo, which is close to Helsinki.

According to Finnish publication Yle Urheilu, Puhakka’s ex-partner Rolf Nordmo, 66, admitted killing him with a shotgun after their recent split Puhakka had been appearing in The Traitors’ second run on Nelonen, hosted by Christoffer Strandberg, and had remained in the game leading up to the final episode.

The network has decided to pull the finale recorded earlier this year and due to air this week as it “is not the right time” to air the episode. A Nelonen spokesperson said: “We have come to the conclusion that now is not the right time to air an episode.

“We will return to the question of the possible presentation of the episode later. We share in the grief of Janne’s loved ones,”

Local police believe Puhakka was killed by his former spouse shortly after their separation. Puhakka was reportedly killed upon returning to the Henttaa home he once shared with Nordmo.

Nordmo has been arrested and is currently behind bars, facing a murder charge that’s been escalated due to suspicions of premeditation and exceptional brutality and cruelty. It’s reported he used a legally-owned hunting shotgun in the killing of Puhakka and has reportedly admitted to the act, reports the Mirror.

Matti Hogman, the chief investigator, said: “Based on the interrogation, the motive for the crime was the end of the relationship between the victim and the suspect.”

“During the interrogation, things related to their relationship emerged. The suspect has shown strong emotions about the incident. The whole thing has to do with emotions.”
