Beverly Hills, 90210 icon slams Oscars for snubbing Shannen Doherty in memoriam segment

Beverly Hills, 90210 actress Shannen Doherty’s name was left out of the 2025 In Memoriam segment at the Academy Awards, although it is listed on the Oscars website

Beverly Hills, 90210’s Jennie Garth has said it’s “messed up” that her late co-star Shannen Doherty wasn’t included in the Oscars’ In Memoriam segment.

Shannen died in July last year at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer. While she was better known for her television roles, such as Brenda Walsh in 90210 and Prue Halliwell in Charmed, she had also been in several movies and many fans had been expecting her to be a part of the touching tribute.

However, not every industry great lost over the past year was included on the night. Gene Hackman and Maggie Smith were among those honoured but Shannen was left off the list, along with late Gossip Girl actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who died in February at 39.

Shannen’s name is listed on the In Memoriam database on the Oscar website, but the fact she didn’t get a tribute during the ceremony left some people fuming.

Jennie, who starred as Brenda’s best friend Kelly Taylor in the long-running 90s series, was quizzed about the decision to omit Shannen in a video that was shared by TMZ and replied: “Yeah that is messed up.”

Asked if the Academy Awards should issue an apology after leaving Shannen’s name out of the tribute, she replied: “Maybe.”

TMZ also said that a representative for Shannen told them that “it was really disappointing not to see her included in the tribute Sunday night, especially since she had been a part of the Hollywood community for over 45 years”.

The actress made her name on the small screen but also starred in movies such as Mallrats, Heathers and Girls Just Want To Have Fun.

Fans posted messages on X after her name was left out from In Memoriam, with one calling it “so sad” and another saying it was “crazy”. “Why are some stars deemed worthy while others don’t even get a mention?” asked someone else.
