BBC Countryfile viewers were left divided on Sunday night as they watched the latest episode of the hit show, with some branding it “brutal” and accusing the show of exploiting animals
BBC Countryfile’s Matt Baker was back with a bang tonight– and barely had the timelapse of British countryside rolled, when he announced a major change to the show. The TV favourite confirmed that he’s got newcomer Vick Hope joining him as a presenter.
This episode took Vick and Matt to Kielder Forest in Northumberland where they were poking around to see just how this epic bit of green is being spruced up for the long haul. They want it buzzing with wildlife and top notch for the locals too.
Vick didn’t just stand around looking pretty either – she got stuck in at Kielder Salmon Centre, mucking in with saving some proper precious freshwater pearl mussels. As he teed off the show, Matt laid it out: “We have got a special episode for you today. I am in the largest manmade forest in the UK and exploring it with me is Countryfile’s newest presenter, Vick Hope.”

Vick gave Matt a warm squeeze and he cracked on: “Vick, fancy seeing you in the forest.” Vick said: “Who would have thought it. I am so excited to be here, not just because it is my old stomping ground, as it is yours, but today, I am learning how I can help preserve a very rare species,” reports the Express.
Viewers at home were over the moon at Vick joining the lineup with one tweeting like mad: “New presenter fab #countryfile.” And another chimed in: “DJ Calvin Harris’ missus. #countryfile.”
Vick Hope couldn’t contain her excitement about becoming a part of the Countryfile gang, expressing: “I’m delighted to be joining the Countryfile team – spending time in nature has always been hugely important to me, so the chance to learn ever more about the world around us from such beautifully diverse perspectives and such a passionate mix of people who live and breathe country life across the UK will be so special and enriching.”
She gushed about her roots, adding, “I grew up not too far from Kielder Forest, which is where my first filming will take place, and have fond memories of orienteering there as a child; the opportunity to return and champion an area that has meant so much to me as my first assignment is an incredible full circle moment – I can’t wait.”
On a different note, the episode also saw Adam Henson diving into the benefits of grazing livestock in woodland for the farm and wildlife alike.
