Grammy nominated music legend dies after health issues as wife pays sad tribute

Cavin Yarbrough, one half of the iconic R&B duo Yarbrough & Peoples, sadly died on Thursday, June 19 at the age of 72 due to heart disease complications. His wife and musical partner of many years, Alisa Peoples, confirmed the heartbreaking news to LATF USA, paying a touching tribute to her husband of 37 years: “He was the love of my life, my protector. Now he’s my guardian angel.”

Michele Elyzabeth, a close friend and representative of the couple for longer than four decades, expressed her sorrow: “Cavin was not only an extraordinary talent, but a kind man with a great heart. His legacy will live on in the music, in our memories, and in the hearts of everyone who knew him.”

Fans also poured out their grief online as they heard the sad news. One Facebook user wrote: “My deepest condolences and prayers to his family and love ones… Thank you for all your awesome entertainment, Rest in Peace King.”

The pair started their journey as a musical duo in the late ’70s, getting spotted by Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band, who then introduced them to Lonnie Simmons. This connection led to them being signed by Total Experience Records.

Their ascent to stardom was meteoric following their 1981 R&B chart-topping hit Don’t Stop the Music, which not only went gold but also snagged them a Grammy nod in 1982.

Eventually, the couple returned to Dallas to reconnect with their roots both personally and spiritually, setting up their own production company. They kept touring, dabbled in acting with roles in various films, and in 2021, they were celebrated at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters at the Dallas Convention Center.

This event included special accolades from the Mayor of Dallas and the State of Texas, marking the 40th anniversary of their iconic track Don’t Stop The Music.
