Dancing On Ice most brutal falls – from broken ribs to gruesome head injuries

Dancing On Ice has stunned fans with the contestants’ incredible performances, however the star’s are certainly not always graceful on the ice.

It’s the final tonight, which will see TV presenter Joe Swash, Diversity star Perri Kiely and Paralympian Libby Clegg battle it out to be crowned the 2020 winner.

Over the years, there have been some epic tumbles on the ice, with some falls causing more horrific injuries than others.

From Keith Chegwin’s toe-curling trip to Vanessa Bauer being dropped on her head, we’ve got the top most brutal Dancing On Ice falls ahead of tonight’s hotly anticipated final.

The Only Way Is Essex star took part in Dancing On Ice last year and suffered a major tumble during one of her live performances.

In what went down as one of the most memorable DOI falls ever, Gemma fell to the ground in the last moments of her routine, live on television.

Recalling her cringeworthy belly flop, the TOWIE star said: “I remember thinking, ”I’m nearly at the end, I haven’t fallen yet, this is a miracle, maybe I’ll stay in for one more week.”

‘I got so excited, I just went too over the top with my movement, which you’re not allowed to do in ice skating and my toe pick got caught – and bang.”

The iconic talk show host was the first celebrity to trip over in this year’s series.

Trisha was skating along when she started to wobble before falling, putting her hand out to break the fall.

After landing on her bottom, the TV star bravely got up again and finished her routine.

Professional skater Vanessa is partnered with Diversity star Perri Kiely for this series, with the pair making it through to tonight’s final.

Weeks ago she suffered a gruesome fall leaving her unable to skate after the painful injury.

She was practicing on the ice when the star tripped and smashed her face into the wall of the ice rink where she was practising.

After missing a week, which saw Perri forced to dance the group routine alone, she was back skating with her partner.

Frankie Poultney

Frankie was partnered with Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain in the 2008 series of DOI.

The professional skater was rehearsing her routine with Chris when disaster struck.

During a tricky lift which saw Chris lift up Frankie and spin her upside down, the soap star dropped Frankie on her head, leaving her clutching her head in pain as she lay on the ice.

Luckily, she made a full recovery and was able to dance with Chris again.

Keith Chegwin

Television star Keith Chegwin was rushed to hospital after crashing on the ice and seriously injuring himself.

The former Coronation Street cast-member broke three ribs and fractured his shoulder during his first rehearsal for the ITV show back in 2011.

Keith made a full recovery and was invited back to dancing on the rink in 2012.

Speaking of his agonising injury, Keith told TV Biz: “I couldn’t breathe or talk. I had fractured my shoulder and later found out I’d broken three ribs.”

Finally, who could forget Todd Carty’s incredible blunder when the actor and director took part in the fourth series of DOI.

Todd left viewers in hysterics as he took a tumble and proceeded to skate off of set and through the icy tunnel, leaving his partner Suzzie spinning behind him.
