Bake Off star films himself being racially abused on bus as he's called 'bomber'

The Great British Bake Off star Ali Imdad has been racially abused while on a bus by a vile woman who called him a “bomber”.

Ali, 32, who appeared on the show in 2013, was travelling in Birmingham on the No.94 bus when he was racially attacked by the woman, who he was sitting next to.

He recalled how he heard her mumbling things but had his earphones in so took them out to discover she was moaning about people of Asian ethnicity.

The abuse then turned to him, he claims, so the star began filming the woman’s rant, which he has now handed over to authorities.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “We’re investigating an alleged hate crime after a man was racially and verbally abused by another passenger while on board the 94 bus on Corporation Street, Birmingham at around 6.15pm on Sunday, December 20.”

In the video recorded by Ali, who owns a cafe in Birmingham called Cocoa By Ali, the woman can be heard saying a number of vile and racist remarks.

She can be heard blaming “people like him” for “all these bombings” and complained that “Asians are everywhere”.

Ali also tweeted about the incident (Image: Twitter)

Ali told BirminghamLive: “I had just got on the packed bus, and a lady came and sat next to me.

“I had my headphones in and was listening to music but I could hear her moaning about something.

“I heard to say something along the lines of: ‘This country isn’t what it used to be’.”

Ali said he then took his headphones out to hear what she was actually saying and discovered that the woman was just sitting there being racist out loud on a packed bus.

He continued telling the publication: “That’s when I heard her say there were too many Asians everywhere. I challenged her on it and started filming on my phone.

“She carried on – saying when she grew up there were no Asians around and now they were everywhere.

“She asked me what I contributed to the country and I asked her: ‘What have you contributed?’ Then she called me a ‘bomber.'”

Ali said no one on the bus spoke up to defend him.

He has filed a complaint with West Midlands Travel and also reported the incident as a race hate crime with West Midlands Police.

National Express West Midlands told BirminghamLive it was investigating the incident.
