Cardi B wins £22m two-year legal battle with ex manager who 'withheld royalties'

Cardi B has finally settled a two-year, $30million (£22million) battle with her former manager Klneord ‘Shaft’ Raphael.

Shaft claims he discovered the world-famous rapper in 2015 and three years later filed a $10million breach of contract lawsuit against the singer.

He claimed the star tossed their agreement aside to sign with Quality Control, and that her husband Offset, threatened him in the process.

On Christmas Eve, Cardi secured a huge win, which should pave the way for a brand new album in the future, writes AllHipHop.

According to documents obtained by the outlet: “This action, including all claims and counterclaims, is hereby dismissed in its entirety with prejudice against all parties.

“The parties have further agreed that all parties to this action shall bear their own costs and attorney’s fees.”

Shaft’s original lawsuit claimed he helped her with her big break by securing her appearance on ‘Love & Hip Hop’.

He also said he connected her with publishers and producers who created her breakthrough hit ‘Bodak Yellow’.

But the Bronx rapper filed a $30million (£22million) counterclaim accusing Shaft of taking big chunks of her earnings illegally and failing to provide an accurate account of her earnings.

Her response alleged Shaft set up a ‘one-sided’ and ‘unfair’ management deal with her since she signed it without a lawyer, reports TMZ.

The lawsuit affected Cardi’s recording career as well as millions of royalties due from her label Atlantic Records for more than two years.

The lawsuit has been dismissed with prejudice, meaning neither party can drag the other back into court over the dispute.

According to TMZ, Cardi claimed Shaft tried to collect a 20% commission at first then 50% off her Sony publishing deal later.

She also alleged he tried controlling almost every aspect of her life, including who she liked to date.
