“He was great company – and, of course, unlike me, he had actually met Elvis!” Cliff had attempted to meet Elvis on multiple occasions, but the icon was always in another state.
It’s said that during their conversation, Sir Tom asked whether he should attend a party held by “someone called Regine”.
Cliff explained that she was in fact the owner of a car-hire company and went on to say he would pick Sir Tom up from his hotel later that day.
“So the two of us ended up hanging out all day. I left the party at 11, but I heard that Tom was there enjoying himself until two in the morning.”
However, it seems as though the pair are no longer strangers to one another.
Cliff goes on to write: “It had only taken us sixty years to get around to getting to know each other, but we had a blast.”
After releasing 45 studio albums, Sir Cliff who was born Harry Rodger Webb recently made history and became the first artist to reach the UK Top 5 across eight consecutive decades.
