Coronation Street fans gobsmacked as ambulance runs over character

Tonight’s Coronation Street’s 10,000th episode saw Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) get the bad news that her ex husband Dennis Tanner had died.

She was given the task of spreading his ashes in Blackpool, and had the support of her closest friends who went with her.

But tragedy struck when the bus was forced to stop, with the driver having a heart attack and an ambulance being called – but don’t worry about him, he was fine in the end.

Things went from bad to worse though when, in true comedic Corrie fashion, the ambulance ran over Dennis’ urn and spread his ashes all over the road.

Rita was gobsmacked and not too happy that she hadn’t got to fulfil her ex husband’s last wishes – and fans at home couldn’t believe it either.

One tweeted: “Rita’s face when the ambulance banged into Dennis’s ashes!”

Another wrote: “An ambulance, why not. But let’s be honest, it’s what Dennis deserved!”

A third said: “I suppose it’s fitting that Dennis Tanner was finally run over by an emergency vehicle. After all, he was named after a fire engine.”

Someone else commented: “OMG! Those ashes are well scattered now!”

While a fifth noted: “All I can say is Rita, that clearly wasn’t a good place to put it.”

It wasn’t the only shocking thing to happen in the episode, as legendary character Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) decided to leave the cobbles.

He won’t be leaving the soap though, with his storylines now revolving around his new life at a posh retirement home with girlfriend Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska).

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV
