Coronation Street fans sickened as Elaine Jones describes chilling Geoff rape

Coronation Street viewers were horrified during Friday’s episode when Elaine Jones described the sexual violence she experienced in her marriage to Geoff Metcalfe.

The two were married decades ago, but Elaine (Paula Wilcox) was forced to flee the relationship when she reached a breaking point with Geoff’s (Ian Bartholomew) torrent of abuse.

Recalling their marriage, she said: “He was a real charmer at first but then he changed. He controlled everything.”

Elaine admitted Geoff raped her, and said she contracted sexually transmitted diseases from him after he slept with sex workers behind her back.

She said: “He forced himself on me and gave me infections because he was off with prostitutes every weekend.”

Taking to Twitter, viewers were sickened by what they had heard, as they prayed Elaine and Yasmeen Nazir would see justice served.

One said: “Oh Elaine is so brave, got speaking like this!! #Corrie fair play to her. She doesn’t know Yasmeen @itvcorrie but she’s coming through for her.”

“Finally. The moment Geoff was backed into an indefensible corner and Elaine came through and everything he did came to light. Only waited many, many months for that,” wrote a second.

And a third wrote: “Elaine and Yasmeen are both SO brave.”

Elaine also explained why she left her son, Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), in Geoff’s care, as she wiped her tears away in the courtroom.

Tim only discovered Elaine was his biological mother earlier this year, with Geoff having lied about her identity for his entire life.

In her statement, Elaine said: “When I tried to walk out on him he hit me. Well, that was the final straw, in the end, I did get away but I had to leave my baby Timothy.”

Tim looked stricken as he listened from the bench, and Elaine continued: “I tried to get him back but Geoff said if I got anywhere near them he’d kill Timothy.

“This was why it was just easier for me to just let people think I was dead.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
