Coronation Street fans have been speculating over the assault of Adam Barlow for weeks, wondering who was the culprit behind the crime.
On Thursday’s episode, Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) confessed she was the one who hit Adam (Sam Robertson), making the revelation in an emotional outburst.
Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie) appeared on the cobbles, angrily accusing Faye’s brother Gary Windass (Mikey North) of hitting Adam and then covering up the crime.
Faye crumbled, and tearfully admitted she was the one who hurt Adam, having mistaken him for Ray Crosby (Mark Frost).
Ray attempted to rape Faye in harrowing previous scenes, and so, she explained, she drunkenly snuck into the bistro in an attempt to get revenge.
However, through her drunken haze, Faye accidentally attacked Adam instead – and was horrified when she realised the mistake she’d made.
Confused, Gary asked his sister: “What are you talking about, Faye?”
Fighting tears, she responded: “I hit Adam, I didn’t mean to. I thought that it was Ray. I hit him.”
Watching from home, viewers were shocked to learn Faye was responsible for the misdeed, as they took to Twitter to weigh in on the conversation.
One said: “A great end to #Corrie this year, did not see Faye as the attacker coming I thought it must be an outside bet though I wondered if it may be Carla. I like the reasoning behind it that she thought it was Ray, links everything together from that night so well.”
“Faye was a surprise, thought it might’ve been Simon #corrie,” a second added.
And a third chimed: “That was a good twist I wouldn’t suspected Faye.”
“So it was Faye who hit Adam thinking it was Ray. Brilliant,” wrote a fourth.
What will happen when Adam learns the truth about his assault?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8pm on ITV.
