BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker jokingly shut down weather presenter Carol Kirkwood live on air after she snubbed his pick of the best Christmas film.
Dan was joined by Sally Nugent in the show on December 1 when discussion turned to the age-old debate of what qualifies as a Christmas film.
“You know everyone says It’s a Wonderful Life is a Christmas film and actually, it’s only Christmas right at the very end,” he told viewers.
“So how do you qualify for a Christmas film? We were saying earlier, I say Die Hard is a Christmas film, but I know other people get very agitated.”
Sally responded by saying “you can’t beat Elf”, to which Dan agreed that the film is a “think of beauty”.
But then came the controversy. “We don’t get our decorations out until we see the Nakatomi Plaza in Die Hard – that’s the way we roll,” Dan said.
“I think you need to explain what you’ve just said,” Sally remarked as Dan replied: “If you’re a fan of Die Hard, that’s the area where Bruce Willis goes and causes havoc.”
Carol was then asked her thoughts on Die Hard, to which she said she was not a fan but instead loved Elf.
She then delivered the weather report before returning to a miffed Dan in the studio.
“Now you’ve pied off Die Hard Carol, I’ve got no interest in what you’re talking about,” he joked. “So, see you later on.”
Carol quickly hit back: “Fighting talk Dan. I’ll be testing you later.”
“Can’t believe you’re not in the Die Hard clan,” Dan added.
BBC Breakfast airs everyday at 6am on BBC One.
