David Walliams 'quits role' as NTAs host after 'boring' performance

David Walliams has reportedly given up his role as host for the National Television Awards.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge came under fire for his performance and was reportedly upset by the “negative feedback”.

A source told the Mail on Sunday that he “doesn’t want to put himself through that again”.

They continued: “David is a very sensitive soul and was all too aware of the negative feedback.”

One viewer fumed on Twitter: “Completely agree with everything you say @piersmorgan – NTAs are one of the most boring, pointless pieces of TV I’ve seen in a while.

“Also can’t stand Hugh Grant or David Walliams. Rubbish job of presenting, made me cringe!”

Another said: “Considering going to #SilentWitness now.. Walliams is becoming boring. #NTAs.”

In the performance last month, he ditched his trousers during one part.

A joke he made about ex-Love Island presenter Caroline Flack was also met with boos.

Some people on Twitter highlighted the jibe after Flack was found dead in her flat, after taking her own life, although many people told them to back off and to stop “shaming him”.

Walliams had said of Flack: “It’s nice to see Caroline Flack back on TV” after ITV’s The Masked Singer appeared on stage in a costume.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan was also among critics of the display.

On Twitter he urged comedian and former star of The Office Ricky Gervais to step up and take his place.
