Emmerdale Charley Webb 'emotional' as she slams trolls who attacked Jesy Nelson

Emmerdale star Charley Webb has told of her upset over the reasons behind Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson leaving the band.

The 29-year-old singer announced that she was leaving the band this week as she told being in it had taken a “toll on her mental health”.

She also revealed she had become “obsessed” with reading negative comments about herself.

Now Charley, who plays Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap, has hits out at trolls who attacked the singer on social media.

The actress, who shares three sons with her Emmerdale co-star Matthew Wolfenden, told her Instagram fans: “I was reading the statement that Jesy from Little Mix put out about leaving the band.

“I felt so emotional reading that and so angry, because I just think about what she’s been through since being in the public eye.

“The thought of some of the messages and what some people think they can say. It’s so weird. It’s not normal humans.

“It’s not normal for people to think they can say what they want to someone in the public eye that you wouldn’t say to their faces.

“Don’t type it on a screen. Be nice. Be a nice human.”

Charley added that she also was the recipient of “bad” messages on social media but said that she has not suffered to the scale that Jesy had faced while in Little Mix.

The actress said: “I think some of the messages that I get – and they’re bad enough – but the scale that [Jesy] is on being in a girl band, I mean…”

Charley also told how she feared for the environment her children were being brought up into after hearing about the comments Jesy received.

“I just worry about my own kids in the future. I really do,” she said.

Jesy last month told how she was taking an extended break from the group for medical reasons and confirmed on Tuesday her absence will be permanent

In a statement Jesy revealed: “The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health.

“I found the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.

“There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.”
