Emmerdale’s Dingle family is already the biggest clan in the Yorkshire Dales, and it has just welcomed a new member.
On Monday’s episode, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) confirmed her husband Paddy (Dominic Brunt) was officially changing his surname to Dingle, leaving Kirk behind.
In emotional scenes, they tied the knot on Christmas Day, enjoying an intimate ceremony without any guests in attendance.
Confirming Paddy had decided to become a Dingle this evening, Chas said: “He’s going to be a Dingle.”
Her brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was surprised by the news, as Chas added that Paddy “decided he meant more to us than Kirk”.
Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers were delighted to learn Paddy was officially a Dingle, as they took to their keyboards to weigh in on the news.
One said: “Congratulations Mr and Mrs Dingle.”
“So being a Dingle again, does that mean that Paddy gets to drink from the welly,” wrote a second.
And a third chimed: “Because Emmerdale doesn’t have enough Dingles.”
“There’s a lot of Dingles in Emmerdale. Chas marrying and having children with Paddy, gave them an opportunity to start off a proper Kirk family!” added a fourth.
In a sweet scene later in the episode, Paddy returned home, only for Chas to refer to him as “Mr Dingle”.
The groom then told his new bride he had splashed out on a honeymoon, buying a week away in a lush spa in the Cotswolds.
Chas was delighted, making it clear she couldn’t be happier to put the past behind her and look to their future together.
After a rocky few months together, is this the happy ending Chas and Paddy deserve?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
