Emmerdale's Laurel and Jai 'to split' as fans 'work out' tragic pregnancy twist

Emmerdale viewers are concerned Jai Sharma and Laurel Thomas are due for a split, as the pressure of her pregnancy puts a strain on their relationship.

Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) recently learned her unborn child was likely to be born with severe learning difficulties, leading to a controversial abortion storyline.

While Jai (Chris Bisson) wants to keep the baby, on Friday’s episode, Laurel realised she couldn’t go through with the pregnancy.

Laurel herself even hinted a split could be on the horizon, saying: “The stress of this alone could split us up.”

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers feared their relationship would crack under the conflict, bringing their romance to an end.

One said: “Laurels made up her mind up but will it fragment Jai and Laurel’s relationship down the track?”

“Jai and Laurel are poles apart on this … This isn’t going to end well either way, it seems,” added a second.

And a third chimed: “Two people…. Laurel doesn’t want this baby, Jai does….. whatever the outcome the impact will be huge on the other. I fear this will break them. #Emmerdale.”

Things came to a head on Friday night’s episode when Laurel came to a decision regarding her pregnancy.

In emotional scenes, she told Jai: “It’s not okay because I can’t do it.

“I can’t have this baby.”

The concerned mum explained her history of alcohol abuse, combined with Jai’s cocaine addiction, made her fear for the child’s future.

She said: “We’re two addicts in recovery, we have got five kids all needing our attention.

“I’m sorry if I can’t bright side this.”

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm, with an extra helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
