Holly Willoughby in tears over dementia sufferer's touching musical performance

Holly Willoughby was left reaching for the tissues during Tuesday’s This Morning, as one guest astounded her with his musical talent.

In a segment titled “the composer with dementia defying the odds,” Holly and Phillip Schofield interviewed a talented musician named Paul Harvey.

Even though he was diagnosed with dementia last year, the 80-year-old teacher has continued to be able to play piano pieces from memory.

Paul and his son have shared his musical scores with viewers online, with classical musicians playing his bespoke scores in heartwarming scenes.

Tearing up, Holly said: “I don’t know why it’s just so emotional.”

Noticing his co-star’s red eyes, Phil replied: “That is the beauty of music, look at you, you’ve gone again.”

Proud of his father’s phenomenal talent, Paul’s son explained: “If he’s having one of his bad days, nothing is more healing than music with dad.”

After listening to Paul’s compositions, Holly was left in tears, apologising as she struggled to compose herself before the cameras.

She said: “I’m so embarrassed, I don’t know what has happened. It just won’t stop.

“I’m going to get my box of tissues.”

Paul made it clear he understood, revealing he had also found himself “welling up” when he first listened to fellow musicians play his own music.

Showcasing his talent, Phil asked Paul to invent a composition using random chords, and he promptly took to the piano.

After the performance, Holly started clapping, and remarked: “Aw, I wish we could hear more people applauding it. That was beautiful, well done.”

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers were quick to assure Holly she wasn’t the only one in tears, as they sobbed over the heartwarming recital.

One wrote: “Wow! #PaulHarvey made me tear up big time too @hollywills ….the power of music!! Just purchased it…what a phenomenal, stirring piece of music and all for 79p AND the proceeds go to great charities. Get in my playlist!! Thank You #ThisMorning.”

“@hollywills Oh Holly, when you go I go! in pieces here!” exclaimed a second.

And a third penned: “Absolutely beautiful composers. Holly is simply amazing, she has such a precious and caring heart.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
