John Bishop and wife 'flattened' by Covid as he details 'worst illness ever'

John Bishop has revealed that he and his wife have been battling coronavirus over the Christmas period after getting a positive result on Christmas Day.

The 54-year-old took to social media to share a screenshot of his positive result, before going on to explain the symptoms he’s been suffering.

The comedian wrote: “This came through on Christmas Day.

“This is the worst illness I have ever had, debilitating headaches, muscle joint and even skin pain, dizziness, nausea, no appetite, incredibly chronic fatigue.”

John explained that his wife Melanie had also been diagnosed.

“My wife and I are fit non-smokers and it’s flattened us,” he added.

“I know statistics suggest a 99.9% survival rate but that doesn’t mean I would with this experience on anyone. Keep safe.”

His positive Covid-19 result comes just a few months after he questioned the changes that the government introduced to combat the deadly virus.

Back in August, John shared a photo with his sister Carol, with the duo wearing face coverings.

“Travelling with my sister Carol,” he started, “it’s incredible how the world has changed in six months.

“Nobody is suggesting Covid-19 is not a significant problem but to change the way we all live and the damage it is doing to our young people, I honestly think we need to consider if the choices being made are the right ones.

“It seems risk assessments were made months ago when we knew significantly less than we do now and nothing has changed despite the correlation between infection and illness shifting.”

The Liverpudlian added: “The media reporting is one note of fear with nobody challenging the narrative.

“I am sure we will come out of it but I think that will happen sooner if we keep checking what we are being asked to do makes sense – long message but felt like getting it off my chest.”

John was criticised for sharing a selfie with his parents, despite following social distancing guidelines

Earlier this year in April, at the height of the pandemic, John was criticised after he went to visit his elderly parents while on his way to a funeral.

He shared a photo of him smiling with them in the background, though he was stood well away from them and they were outside.

The television star hit back at critics and made it clear that they had been following the guidelines that were in place at the time – and that the funeral he would be attending would as well.

He wrote: “I understand social media allows people a window into your life and I do not overdo it because a moment of joy like this can easily be turned into a moment of judgement from the ill informed.

“However I am reposting it because for me it illustrates what this country is all about – love and family – which even in the worst of times holds us together even if those that we love are out of reach.”
