Kerry Katon a has opened up on what her Christmases were like as a child and recalled how one year she ended up in a refuge centre.
The 40-year-old spoke to OK! magazine about the tough festive periods she faced as a child and explained that this is why she goes “above and beyond” to give her five children amazing Christmases.
She spilled on how she spoils all of them after her own experiences, which saw her eat corned beef at a refuge centre when she was a child.
The star told the publication how she was only nine years old at the time and she went to the refuge centre with her mum after they’d just been rehomed.
Kerry continued telling OK!: “I always remember being in a refuge with my mum and we’d just got re-homed. I was only nine.
“The people from the refuge knocked on the door on Christmas Day with a bin bag of second-hand toys.
“We got a can of corned beef and some baked beans and I was really grateful.
“That’s why I like to go above and beyond for the kids – because I like to give them the Christmases I never had.”

The star also told the publication how she prepares to spend Christmas this year amid it being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
She recalled how she is usually the first one up, even before all five children.
Kerry said then the kids then run downstairs to open their presents, which are split into piles for each of them.
But, like most mums on the big day, Kerry is there waiting with a bin bag for the rubbish from the wrapping paper.
Her fiancé Ryan Mahoney will also be spending the day with her and three of her children, Heidi, 13, Max, 12, and Dylan-Jorge, six.
