Lorraine Kelly slams 'half-a***d' nation as 'some people don't care' about Covid

Lorraine Kelly made it clear she wasn’t too happy about some people not closely following the second lockdown rules, after it was introduced last week.

The ITV presenter spoke on her morning show with Dr Hilary Jones about the latest coronavirus news, including the likely number of cases after the lockdown.

Dr Hilary said: “Most people are being compliant, and there’s a small proportion who just don’t seem to care and who are not obeying the rules.”

Lorraine said they were being “half-a***d”, adding: “If we can say that?”

Despite the new lockdown, Dr Hilary suggested that the number of coronavirus cases in the country at the end won’t change much.

He said: “It’s patchy across the country and too early to tell how this lockdown will do, but we’ll probably come out with the same sort of figures we went in with just as Wales did with their firebreak.”

The medical expert said the country is currently “stabilising halfway where we were” between now and July after the first lockdown.

Dr Hilary spoke of bizarre claims that mouthwash can combat coronavirus, saying it was highly unlikely that this was the case.

“It does kill some bacteria in the mouth, can kill some viruses in the mouth,” he said, “but there’s no evidence to say it can stop Covid, which lives in your nose as well as your mouth.”

And as for vaccines, Dr Hilary said it was unlikely that one would be rolled out to everyone before Christmas, instead suggesting it would be spring or summer 2021 for those not classed as vulnerable.

However he did say: “GPs have been put on stand-by to roll out the vaccine to the most vulnerable people, key workers and the elderly.”

He added: “For most people we’re looking at a vaccination in spring or summer next year.

“We don’t know how effective it’ll be but even if it’s 50% effective and keeps people out of hospital, it’s a good thing.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
