Noah Cyrus has apologised after she faced backlash from social media users after she used the word “nappy” while attempting to defend Harry Styles.
Harry faced some criticism for wearing a dress on the cover of US Vogue, however Miley Cyrus ‘ little sister wasn’t having it and took to Instagram to defend him.
She shared a shot from the Vogue photoshoot and added the words: “He wears this dress better than any of u nappy a** heauxz [sic].”
Her comment came after conservative US personality Candace Owens tweeted “bring back manly men” in response to Harry’s photoshoot.
But Noah’s words did not go down well with social media users, who were quick to point out that the term was racially insensitive.

One tweeted: “Noah Cyrus excuse/apology is not accepted by me! Out of all of the insults you could’ve save, you chose ‘nappy’. You said it about black women, at that.”
Another said: “Noah Cyrus called Candace Owens a nappy headed heaux and thought we was finna laugh [sic]?”
Noah shared a statement in which she claimed she did not know the word’s “context and history”.

She wrote: “I am mortified that I used a term without knowing the context and history, but I know now and I am horrified and truly sorry.
“I will never use it again.
“Thank you for educating me. I in no way meant to offend anyone. I am so so sorry.”
Social media users have suggested that Noah believed the word meant “tired”, however were still unhappy with her apology.
Sharing a screenshot of Homer Simpson looking angry, one wrote: “Noah Cyrus really ‘thought’ nappy meant tired?”
Another said: “So you’re telling me Noah Cyrus went on Instagram and typed nappy headed but meant tired headed. Yeah okay.”
Meanwhile, other black women shared photos of themselves with their natural hair in response, as a way to reclaim the slur and turn it into something positive.
