Mo Farah’s net worth explored ahead of I’m A Celebrity stint

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Sir Mo Farah will be swapping marathons for trials when he heads into the haunted castle.

The Olympic hero is known as one of the greatest long-distance runners of all-time.

Sir Mo, 37, has bagged four Olympic gold medals as well as a marathon medal and BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, the runner spent his childhood in Djibouti with his twin brother.

As a civil war plagued the country, he joined his dad in England at the age of 8.

He was quickly seen as an excellent athlete, recognised for his talent at secondary school in Feltham.

A keen Gunner, Farah eventually abandoned his dream of being a winger for Arsenal and instead went on to be an Olympic great.

He took home two golds in Rio in 2016, just as he had done in London in 2012.

And Sir Mo has a host of gold medals from the World Championships, winning the 5,000m in 2011, 2013 and 2015, as well as the 10,000m in ’13, ’15 and ’17.

He also won gold at the European Championships in both the 5,000 and 10,000m races in 2010, and again in 2014.

When he retired from the track he turned to marathons, coming third in London in 2018 before winning the Chicago race in 2018, setting a European record.

At what was only his third competitive event, he got around in an astonishing 2 hours, 5 minutes and 11 seconds.

However in November 2019 he announced his return to the track and defend his 10k title in Tokyo.

He is hoping to race in the rescheduled Olympics in 2021.

Sir Mo’s achievements have lead to a hefty packet, along with honours from the Queen including a CBE and a knighthood in 2017.

His net worth is reportedly in and around the £4 million mark.

His wealth came initially from his athletics performances and results, but he also made even more from his lucrative commercial deals.

Farah has signed sponsorship agreements with the likes of Nike, Virgin Media, Lucozade and Bupa over the years.

He also is the face of Quorn and is often seen on their TV adverts.

At the start of 2018, it was thought that Farah’s deal with Virgin Media was earning him around £1million per annum.

He agreed to take part in I’m a Celebrity this year and is said to be a “big fan” of the show.

The Sun reports that Sir Mo will pocket a whopping £300,000 for his time in the castle.

A source told the paper: “It’s a massive coup for producers to get Mo for the series. Everyone’s really excited about the signing and think he’ll be a hit with viewers.

“It’s the first time he’s agreed to do anything like this, so it’ll be a massive draw for sports fans.”
