Piers Morgan brands Meghan and Harry's Remembrance Day pictures 'distasteful'

Good Morning Britain’ s Piers Morgan ripped into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Monday after the couple laid a wreath for Remembrance Sunday.

The 55-year-old presenter claimed that Prince Harry asked Buckingham Palace to lay a wreath in the Cenotaph in his name on Sunday, but they refused.

Harry, who served in the armed forces, and wife Meghan, who both now live in America, instead laid a wreath at Los Angeles National Cemetery with the message: “To all of those who have served, and are serving. Thank you.”

Outspoken Piers slammed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for allegedly hiring a photographer to capture the event, calling it a “distasteful PR stunt”.

Piers’ co-star Susanna Reid asked: “Why wouldn’t he want to show his respect when he has such a strong connection?”

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has once again lashed out at Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle as the couple laid a wreath for Remembrance Sunday

“Why do it with a photographer?” asked Piers.

“Because if you don’t do it with a photographer, no one will know what you’ve done it!,” Susanna, 49 hit back.

Piers replied: “Oh please, do me a favour, he could have issued a statement.

“They launched a PR stunt with a preferred photographer to take the attention away from the royals back in London… Because they felt thwarted.”

As Susanna called Piers “bitter” for his comment, he added: “They want their royal cake and they want to eat it.

Viewers were left divided over Piers’ comments as many tweeted to defend Harry.

One wrote: “Shut up Piers you’re wrong. Prince Harry would be dammed if he did damned if he didn’t.”

Another ranted: “Piers you’ve seriously got something wrong with you. There was nothing wrong with what Harry did.

“Only people who have a problem with him thinks there his. A veteran pays his respects to the war dead. That’s all it was. Get over yourself.

“He has every right to lay a wreath and let everyone know he is showing his respect.”

A third said: “I very rarely agree with Piers Morgan but on this I do. I believe Harry’s heart was real but the Hollywood PR machine absolutely used it. Harry turning cheap and plastic.”

While a fourth agreed: “Absolutely right Piers. Meghan and Harry did it for media attention only.”

Daily Star Online has contacted Harry and Meghan’s spokeswoman for comment.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
